Adolescent Therapy

Adolescence is a transitional stage between childhood and adulthood and occurs between the ages 13 years old and 19 years old, and includes big changes to their body and to their emotions. Adolescence can be difficult for some teens. In therapy, I help them understand what is happening with their body and mind, understand their emotional struggles, how to cope with stress, depression, anxiety, and focus on healthy relationships with their peers.

Parenting Counseling

Parenting is one of the most challenging, but yet rewarding jobs one can do. In my work with parents and caregivers, I help them understand the milestone of child emotional and physical growths, and how to help their children emotionally and psychologically.

In parenting session we talk about positive parenting, positive discipline strategies, parenting children with challenging behaviour, how to help and support their children to regulate their emotions, how to set clear boundaries, be consistent, be mindful and respectful to their children.

I also explain to parents how to spend quality time with their children and what is child centered play. Playing is the only time children have control of something; is through play that they learn how to set boundaries, wait their time, win and lose and how to deal with the emotions.

Parents can also teach their children colors, words, numbers and anything by playing. Spending time with children playing is a moment of bounding, more than anything.

”Children are like wet cement, whatever falls on them makes an impression”
Dr. Haim Ginott

Same as adults, children experience stress, anxiety and depression too, however, the way they express their emotions could be different. Children usually don’t have the emotional maturity to understand what is happening with them and do not have the language to verbalize it, so they exhibit their emotion by showing behavioral problems.

Signs of emotion distress in children could be any change in behavior; they may show difficulty in socializing, be defiant, anger, bed wetting,
crying a lot, anxiety, fear, academically decline at school, sleep issues, eating disorder, etc.

In my work with children through Play-therapy I help them understand why they are feeling the emotions and help them name the emotions by teaching them emotion awareness, and how they feel the emotion on their body; and them we develop strategies in how to deal with the emotion, what to do when they feel the emotion so they can regulate themselves.

In therapy session with children we talk about self-esteem and building confidence, social skills, problem solving skills, and effective communication skills, healthy and unhealthy relationships. Through play children are able to express their emotions more freely.
